Human Oversight Reliance Review
A practical method for deciding what an organisation can rely on human oversight to do.
An approval can arrive before a message is sent but after data have left the organisation. A specialist can be committed to two AI processes that each assume full availability. A replacement team can receive the queue without the knowledge, authority or open concerns needed to continue the work. In each case the organisation chart shows a human in the loop — and says nothing about whether the arrangement could deliver what is being relied on.
The method closes that gap with one connected review. Six steps — Define, Trace, Examine, Reconcile, Decide, Revisit — take a bounded claim about the arrangement through the path by which cases reach the person, the information, competence and practical authority available at the decision, the time in which intervention can still take effect, and the shared and external capability committed elsewhere at the same moment. The question it operationalises: what can this organisation rely on this arrangement to do, on what evidence, and under which continuing conditions?
The result is an evidence-linked account of what oversight can support, what remains unresolved, what is permitted now and which changes return the question to a decision-maker. Evidential findings stay deliberately separate from operating authorisation.
